I've read variations on this story many times -- a trek to rescue a kidnapped loved one (or recover a buried treasure or whatever MacGuffin is out there). These authors, however, set their story in a new, unique, richly imagined world unlike any other I've read about or seen. It's not traditional fantasy, nor some future dystopia, nor even a recognizably alien world -- it's a world much like our own but with some VERY different underpinnings. The implications are deep, and I'm not sure I've fully grasped them yet. Will definitely need to reread this sometime between now and when I devour book 2 -- can't wait!Tags : The First Book of Ore The Foundry's Edge (The Books of Ore) [Cam Baity, Benny Zelkowicz] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The First Book of Ore The Foundry Edge The Books of Ore Cam Baity Benny Zelkowicz 9781423162278 Books Reviews
Foundry’s Edge is imaginative, entertaining, touching, and morally provocative in a way that will engage young readers. This is a novel to awaken the conscience as well as the imagination.
What an exciting engaging story line. Couldn't put this book down. Highly recommended for both kids and adults! Can't wait for the next one!!
It was good, not my style of read usually. Felt like I was in a drug induced haze. Oz? Alice?
The authors have created an incredibly rich world of living metal, with an suspenseful exciting story that challenges young readers to think about the costs and benefits of modern prosperity.
I thouroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the second volume to see what happens next.
The Foundry's Edge takes readers of ALL ages on an exciting ride through a totally new and highly original world.
Authors Baity and Zelkowicz challenge readers to stretch their imagination and actively participate in the adventure by forming mental images of this world of living metal. Children as well as adults will be fascinated by vivid descriptions of the many unique creatures and landscapes and upon finishing the book, will anxiously await the second volume.
As a friend of the author from college, I picked up the book a little uncertain what to expect (I was curious).
I was extremely pleased to find that I am really enjoying the book and see significant space for future books in the series ("First Book"). Overall, the ideas are excellent and well executed with a nice mixture of appeal for younger and older readers.
I would recommend the book to anyone who likes good sci-fi or fantasy.
I picked up this book not quite knowing what to expect other than a story about children being chased by creepy adult men, which isn't my usual go-to. I loved it! It has been a couple of months since I read the book and I continue to find myself thinking about the characters, the imagery that I conjured up, and wondering what the next adventure will be. The authors weave a wonderful fantasy world, and each introduction of a new being meant creating a super cool character in my brain. I won't go into plot details, as other reviewers have already done me the favor, but I want to emphasize that you will enjoy the ride of fantastic imagery this book creates. While it's a little dark for younger readers, you grown-ups will certainly get pulled into the story and have good reason to get home from work and park on the couch with a good reading lamp. Enjoy the trip!
