What a powerful, dark, tragic tale with an unrequited romance interwoven throughout the story. The story starts with Vasile, one of the most evil vampires I’ve met since Eco in Unholy Testament. As Vasile searches for his new mate, little does he know that the woman he grants everlasting life to, Elizabeth Sutton, will ultimately be his demise.

There are several sub-plots in the story, but the main plot revolves around Mia and Cain. Mia is 10 when she first meets and helps Cain. From that moment on, a bond is forged that will end up being their salvation. I really enjoyed these characters and the terrible events that life kept throwing at them. I felt very connected to them and they were really believable. Cain is my type of man, dark, hunky and tragic.

Some of the lower star reviews complained there were too many characters the author just threw away in the middle of the story, that these disposable characters didn’t help or advance the plot. I totally disagree. This story stretches across several generations from when Cain was first turned. Every character introduced in this story helps with the plot and character development for Cain and Mia. Sure people died, but a horror story isn’t a horror story without victims. If you don’t understand that, then you shouldn’t be reading horror stories.

And I must say, some of the deaths were pretty graphic and gruesome. I write horror and some scenes even made me squeamish. When I think back on it though, it’s more Cain’s rage and the realization that he feels no remorse or guilt for any of his actions. A true vampire at heart.

This is a wonderful tale and I highly recommend the book. I give it 5 feathers.

Immediately wrapped into the plot from the start, I was kept fully engaged and loved all of the twists that were thrown at me. The main antagonist, Vasile, is the evilest of all. He is brought in from the very beginning as we watch him target victim after victim. We see reflections of love and also hatred throughout. The bad guy, Vasile, is searching for his ultimate new mate. He points his fangs at Elizabeth Sutton, the mother of Cain.

The author leaves out no detail in the brutalities Vasile creates. If you like blood, gore, and non-stop heart racing reads, then this is for you. Not your typical clichéd vampire story either, the author adds in multiple colors to the story in her own unique way. A vampire story that is simply quite different, and raw.

Next in line comes Cain, not as evil as Vasile, his mission is to keep the sweet Mia safe, meanwhile seeking his revenge on Vasile. This made things a little complicated as we witness the hunky Cain struggle with roadblocks and life decisions.

I loved the various characters that come and go throughout, with everything wrapping around the central characters, who were extremely well developed and likeable. This was no doubt an awesome read and Wolfenden is definitely a very talented author to watch out for.
Although a familiar theme, this vampire love story is executed flawlessly. The writing is top notch, the story is addicting, and the characters are easy to love (and hate). There's a spectrum of vampires--the good, the bad, and the really bad. Cain is a good guy, well as a good as a vampire can be. And a sweet girl named Mia turns out to be his saving grace. The characters were well developed and I enjoyed the way the author wove their stories together.
This books has it all--action, horror, and romance. There are so many plot twists and turns, it made my head spin. This is an unforgettable stories, and I applaud the other on his creative take on the vampire genre. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author!
Behind Blue Eyes is an exciting read with good, bad, and evil vampires. After Cain’s mother kills herself, Cain, a new vampire, goes on a quest to destroy Vasile, the evil vampire who turned his mother. Along the way, he meets good vampires, vampires that control their thirst for blood and don’t kill their victims. He also runs into vampire hunters and is saved by Mia, a ten-year-old girl. He vows to always keep Mia safe. As Mia becomes older, his relationship with her becomes more complicated while he continues to search for Vasile.
This is a well-written vampire tale with an engaging plot full of twists and turns. If you enjoy Vampire stories, you’ll love this book!
I love supernatural and paranormal thrillers and vampire stories are some of my favorite tales. Twilight killed my love for vampire stories. The reviews for this book led me to pick it up and I'm glad I did. This is a very well written vampire tale with a bit of everything. Romance and revenge, good and evil, guilt and lust vie with each other.

As usual I fell in love with Cain, the central character. I mean he's a vampire trying to be good. It doesn't get better than that. The way he tries to hold on to his humanity is brought out very well and you feel like applauding his protective instincts with the heroine of the book, Mia. The characters reach out to you, whether they're good or bad or a mixture of the two. This was a real page turner and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you Ms. Wolfenden for a great read
